UPDATE: Bill to eliminate bail for most misdemeanors fails in North Dakota House.

House Bill 1123 would allow North Dakota residents arrested for most misdemeanors to be released without posting bail.

The bill addresses the problem of cash bail in North Dakota and aims to fix our broken system. House Bill 1123 would change North Dakota law to eliminate the use of cash bail in certain circumstances, primarily for low-level, nonviolent criminal charges. This bill also addresses how cash bail treats poor North Dakotans versus their peers.
