UPDATE: House Bill 1441 - a paid family leave study - failed on the Senate floor by a 22-25 vote.

House lawmakers passed an amended version of House Bill 1441, the paid family medical leave bill. The change to the bill would create a study of the financial impact of a paid family medical leave program in North Dakota.

House Bill 1441 is an act to create a paid family medical leave program in North Dakota.

We support House Bill 1441 because paid family leave is a critical civil rights issue that helps alleviate race and gender disparities in the workforce.

This bill would ensure that that North Dakotans do not have to choose between caring for an infant or loved one and their job. This is critical to achieving economic equality for women, especially women of color, and low-income people who often have to choose between caring for family or their jobs.

House Bill 1441 is a win for both families and businesses and will help companies that might not have the resources to offer their own paid family leave policy.
