President Biden: Accurate IDs for All Now

Trans, intersex, and non-binary people still do not have access to accurate federal IDs. This reality puts too many of us – particularly trans people of color and especially Black trans people – at risk of daily discrimination because our identification doesn't reflect who we are.

But President Biden has the power to prevent this dangerous misgendering on IDs – by directing all federal agencies to allow us to self-verify our own gender and to include a gender neutral "X" designation option on all federal IDs and records. Send a message urging President Biden to ensure access to accurate IDs across the federal government.

Ensure Access to Accurate IDs for All

I'm asking you to show up for our trans, intersex, and non-binary communities right now, especially amidst the ongoing legislative attacks against young people across the states. President Biden, please direct all federal agencies to implement self-attestation of gender markers, and allow for a gender neutral "X" designation on all federal IDs and records.

Currently, to update a gender marker in the social security system, on a passport, on immigration documents, or on any other federal ID or record – an applicant must submit a medical letter from a doctor attesting to appropriate clinical treatment for gender transition.

Without full access to something as essential as an accurate ID, trans, intersex, and non-binary people are left open to discrimination and harassment every single day – particularly trans people of color and especially Black trans people. But you can prevent this dangerous misgendering on federal records and send a critical message to LGBTQ communities nationwide: Our government sees you as exactly who you are, and wants you to be supported and included in this country.

We know you support transgender, intersex, and non-binary people. For dignity and safety in our daily lives, ensure everyone has access to accurate IDs now.

Sincerely,
