Sarah Parkin has joined the ACLU of North Dakota as digital communications associate.
In this role, Parkin develops and manages the cross-platform digital communications and social media strategy for the ACLU of North Dakota and is responsible for generating content that is engaging, up-to-date and results in measurable action. She also produces and edits videos that are informative, timely and support the ACLU’s advocacy efforts.
“Sarah is full of ideas and has the drive and passion to make them work,” said Libby Skarin, ACLU of North Dakota executive director. “Her commitment to civil rights and social justice, along with her knowledge of all things digital, is exactly what we need to tell our story, advance our work and connect with our varied audiences on always-changing digital platforms.”
Prior to the ACLU, Parkin worked for Dakota News Now in Sioux Falls, S.D., first as a multimedia journalist and then as the station’s digital content producer, and managed the social media accounts for two nonprofit organizations, the Burma Spring Benefit Film Festival and Ranch Hands Rescue. She also interned for the ACLU of Nebraska.
Parkin earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Nebraska and her master’s degree in human rights practice from the University of Arizona.
About the ACLU of North Dakota
The American Civil Liberties Union of North Dakota is a non-partisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of civil liberties and civil rights. The ACLU of North Dakota is part of a three-state chapter that also includes South Dakota and Wyoming. The team in North Dakota is supported by staff in those states.
The ACLU believes freedoms of press, speech, assembly and religion, and the rights to due process, equal protection and privacy, are fundamental to a free people. In addition, the ACLU seeks to advance constitutional protections for groups traditionally denied their rights, including people of color, women and LGBTQ+ and Two Spirit communities. The ACLU of North Dakota carries out its work through selective litigation, lobbying at the state and local level, and through public education and awareness of what the Bill of Rights means for the people of North Dakota.
