Elisha is a biologist, feminist, supporter of equal rights, and ally who moved to North Dakota more than four years ago to work as a biologist and become a voice for our natural world. When she moved to the state, she realized she needed to use her voice to speak up for equality.

Pride is ______. (Fill in the blank)

Pride is a reminder of how far we've come and how much further we have yet to go. A time to celebrate, but also a call to action!

How do you show your Pride year-round?

I try to be a visible ally and use my voice to amplify others who are silenced. I support organizations that are fighting for equal rights, attend rallies and events, write letters to elected officials, and work to educate myself, as well as those around me, on checking internal biases and becoming a better person and ally.

What is your go-to song that gets you ready to take action?

I play Kesha for a rally cry! "Rainbow," "Woman," "Raising Hell," and "Hymn" are my favorites.

What do you have to say to politicians who support anti-LGBTQ+ legislation?

Oppressive legislation always ends up on the wrong side of history. Please consider the impact your vote could have on the lives of your constituents!

How can visibility in local government affect change in North Dakota?

Representation is so important. We need LGBTQ+ and Two Spirit folks in decision-making roles. We need their voices to be heard and their experiences and ideas to be a part of decision making. We need LGBTQ+ and Two Spirit youth to see people like them working to create a more inclusive and safe North Dakota.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Don't forget to invest in yourself! You can give more when your tank is full.
