As the leading civil rights organization in our state, the ACLU of North Dakota believes in keeping the public informed about the state of their civil liberties. The work we do at the legislature, in the courts, and in our communities is important, but there is no better defender of civil rights than a public that is informed and engaged.
"As a test site, North Dakota will be on the cutting edge of drone development and adoption. But any program that employs drone technology must include clear, rigorous and enforceable privacy protections," said Zach Packineau, of the American Civil Liberties Union of North Dakota.
Today, North Dakota achieved the shameful distinction of enacting the most restrictive law on abortion in any state. In addition to passing a bill that would ban abortions after only six weeks of pregnancy, Gov. Jack Dalrymple also signed into law a separate bill that targets women with medically complicated pregnancies and a bill designed to shut down the one abortion clinic in the state.
For years, some politicians have been passing laws to undermine the ability of women to access comprehensive reproductive health care. Recently, we've seen increased attacks on abortion and birth control.
Some politicians in North Dakota are so intent on taking away a woman’s ability to make personal, private decisions they are pushing a package of bills that, together, would ban abortion, prevent women’s health centers from providing comprehensive care, and block many people’s attempts at even starting a family.
